The Empty Attic is a business that sells homemade crafts, knickknacks, and other household objects. The business operates out of a local community thrift/craft store that sells homemade and secondhand items. Lori, the owner of this business, specializes in hand-decorated wreaths and some toy items like dollhouses. My project was to help create a logo for Lori's business as well as a business card featuring the logo.
The Logo
When designing the logo, I came up with a few concepts based on my conversations with Lori. I talked to her about what kind of products she creates and sells in The Empty Attic to get some inspiration. Some of my concepts were centered around an attic itself, but after further discussion we decided to go in a direction of a box with a variety of items in it. Then, we discussed what kind of items should go into the box. Based off of Lori's collection of items for sale, we chose a wreath, a dollhouse, a toy tractor, and a large mason jar.
The Font
For the font, I was leaning towards something sans-serif or with small serifs. I wanted to capture the idea of homemade and hand-crafted with the font. We ultimately ended up choosing one that uses a pen/marker style font to encapsulate the hand-written and homey feeling of the logo.

The Business Card
For the business card, Lori wanted to do a simple, one-sided card that had the logo, contact information, and a slogan. We first went over the slogan, which initially started as "Fill your house with ____ from". The trickiest part was that one missing word. I came up with a few different options, including trinkets, knickknacks, and novelties, but ultimately ended up choosing decor. For the background of the card, I wanted to go with a lighter blue/green as it would contrast well against the various colors contained within the logo.
