At the University of Minnesota, I am the graphic designer for the Academic Support Resources (ASR) group. Academic Support Resources is made up of six different departments including the Office of Student Finance, Office of the Registrar, Office of Classroom Management, and One Stop Student Services. As the sole graphic designer within ASR, I am the go-to person for any and all graphic design needs. I am constantly partnering with department directors and other team members to provide them with brand guidelines, handouts, infographics, and more. Below are some of the projects I have worked on during my time at the University of Minnesota.
One Stop Student Services Customer Satisfaction Survey Infographic (2021)
One Stop Student Services functions as it's named: it's a one-stop shop for students when they need assistance with anything from financial aid documents to class information. Each year, the department conducts a monthly survey that is sent out to a random selection of students who visited One Stop that year to evaluate their satisfaction with the services they received. I then take that information from the survey results and create an infographic from them. My goal with this project is to display results in a hierarchal matter so the most important and impactful results are seen first. The document should have a natural flow of where your eyes go as a reader would scan their way down the document. Overall I believe that the end result effectively portrays the survey results in an easy to read document.
Academic Support Resources Annual Report (2022-23)
Every year, Academic Support Resources puts together an annual report that covers the statistics, data, and updates on what's going on within each unit of the department. It is a large scale project that takes months to complete and as the graphic designer, it was my job to compile all of this information together into a digestible and comprehensive document that can be used to show other Universities or additional stakeholders within our University that wish to understand more about our department and what we do. Above are two examples of some pages showcasing statistics and data from our department from the 2022-23 report.
The full report can be viewed on the Academic Support Resources website at asr.umn.edu on the home page under "ASR Annual Report".
University Catalogs Website Design
The catalogs websites are resources for students, faculty, and staff to utilize to gain information on courses and programs offered at the University of Minnesota. Each of the five institutions within the University of Minnesota has their own catalog website, and my role when building these sites was to design them according to University branding guidelines. The catalog sites are built using CourseDog, which allowed me to get some amazing hands on experience with a third party vendor and gain a comprehension of their system while simultaneously branding websites from the ground up. I picked all colors, images, and fonts that are found in each section of the catalog sites using CourseDog. At first this was a challenge because CourseDog did not have full documentation on what settings impacted what aspects of a site. As a creative solution to this problem, I built out a spreadsheet that labeled and listed what specific colors, fonts, etc. were impacted by each individual setting within CourseDog. This resource was a huge success and our CourseDog partners requested to use it for their own documentation and to share with other college organizations that they are partnered with.
The full catalog websites can be viewed and explored at catalogs.umn.edu.
